“Fire Truck!” – A Boy’s Wish To Visit A Fire Station

December 11, 2024

In our vibrant world, some children face extraordinary challenges that keep them indoors, away from the laughter and play that define childhood. These medically fragile children, battling serious health conditions, often miss out on the simple joys of exploration and discovery.

Despite their physical limitations, these brave young souls deserve to experience the wonders that lie beyond their windows. Together with New Creation Community Services (NCCS), we fulfilled a boy's dream of visiting the fire station.

Simon (not his real name) enjoys listening to sirens and watching YouTube videos of firemen and fire trucks. At the start of the school holidays, we took Simon to the Sentosa Fire Station as part of the "Gift-A-Wish" program, hosted by NCCS.

We were fortunate to be the only group visiting that day and were amazed by the warm hospitality extended to us by the SCDF Fire officers - even having a personalised tour with a hands-on experience with the water hose. For the first time in his life, Simon saw a real fire truck and heard the full blast of a siren! But more than just witnessing a fire truck, we saw a "rainbow".

Our hope at Singapore Christian Home is to ensure that every child, regardless of their medical condition, has the opportunity to experience and engage with the world around them. We are so glad that Simon's dream came true.
